Students will photograph, develop, and print a wide variety
of quality photographic art works to create a process
portfolio (which will include a collection of finished art
works, self-evaluations, idea sketches, handouts, notes,
and critiques). They will study photographic history,
the elements and principles of design, critiquing, and
aesthetics (the appreciation of beauty). Student activities
will include an introduction to the camera, film, darkroom
and developing processes, and special printing techniques.
Students must supply their own 35mm camera with manual
controls and must be able to fund approximately $75-$100
for photography supplies for each photography class.
In Photography II, III, and IV, students will increase
their degree of technical proficiency in the use of the
camera and darkroom equipment. In addition, they will
work on increasingly more individual and independent
projects which may focus on photojournalism, color slide
preparation, experimental processes, layout and graphic
applications, and/or computer graphics applications using
up-to-date software.
