BHS*t*a*g*e Presents

Winter Dessert Theatre

On Wednesday Jan 16 and Thursday Jan 17 at 7 p.m. students from the Introduction to Theatre and Advanced Acting classes will present an evening of one-act plays, scenes, monologues and a song.  At intermission homemade desserts and refreshments will be served.

The setting for the Dessert Theater is unique in that the audience sits on risers placed on the stage and surrounding the actors on three sides.  This puts them as close as possible to see how the elements of the play come together since all the lights, set changes, entrances and exits can be seen.  This also provides the actors with the opportunity to test themselves as they perform within feet of their audience.

“The Game,” directed by senior Kalli Heffner, revolves around a psychological experiment that goes awry, and features performances by Hannah Ewald as Baker, Axl Merriman as D. Hizzle, Grace Cassutto as Edson, and Emily Harris as Carter.

The second play, “Rapunzel Uncut,” directed by senior Kimmy Tate, is the story of Rapunzel told by dueling narrators, with a misunderstood Witch, an off-pitch Rapunzel, and an unimaginably stupid Prince.  The cast includes Rachel Ham as Narrator 1, Mi’Kea Bowie as Narrator 2, Grace Cassutto as Mother, Jacob Ewald as Father, Cassandra Dhillon as the Witch, Megan Rufty as Rapunzel, Axl Merriman as the Prince, and Breanna Borror and Jessica Harkins as Townspeople.

A variety of smaller stage performances throughout the evening will be presented by Advanced Acting students, including Nick Whims, Kalli Heffner, Taylor Dunham, Kimmy Tate, Meaghan Edgerly, Kevin Dwyer, Danielle Mentzer, Zoe Eackles, Ben Wheeler, Chris Coghill, Jonathan Weber, Dallas White, Kelly Odendahl, Morgan Gabaly and Nicole Fontaine.

Patricia Fisher is in charge of lights and properties, while students in the Technical Theatre class are handling the technical setup for the shows.

Seating is limited to 80 and the $4.00 tickets will be sold during the day at school and in the auditorium lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m. each performance night.  For more information call Lee Vogtman at 240-236-8599.

About BHStage

"Theater" "Theatre" or "Drama" is often called the 'umbrella art' as it encompasses many different fields of study, including Performance (acting, singing, dancing), Drafting and Design (scenic, lighting and sound design), Construction Techniques (scenic, costume, properties), and Visual Art (painting, rendering, texturing).

At B.H.S. we offer four levels of Drama, and four levels of Technical Theatre. Within these classes we hope to provide exposure to as many facets of theater as possible. The department puts on several productions every school year. These include Dessert Theatre, Dinner Theatre, Experimental Theatre, Cabaret and two Main stage productions. We also offer a variety of opportunities for the student to see productions elsewhere.
