DECA, through a collaborative effort with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, has launched a new project designed to connect high school students to college entrepreneurial programs and to increase the number of students pursuing entrepreneurship education beyond high school. The first phase of the project included the development of a Website, www.entreneuru.org . This website provides students, parents and school personnel with a searchable database of college entrepreneurship programs. Please feel free to explore this website.
Junior Statesman Summer School for outstanding high school students. Experience the challenge and excitement of politics. You may be nominated to participate in this program if you are a freshman, sophomore or junior who has a passion for politics and current events. Check with Mrs. Tuckey in the Guidance Office for details of this summer program.
Nursing Opportunity:
Any student between the ages of 18-28 who is interested in the nursing field..... the University of the District of Columbia is offering FREE tuition, FREE books, a $250 stipend and guaranteed job placement as a nurse at Providence Hospital upon graduation (it's a three-year program).Starting salary is $40,000. Unique summer
opportunity for high school students interested in pursuing a career in
forestry and natural resources. The Natural Resources Careers Conference is a week long hands-on
educational program held the last full week in July at the Hickory
Environmental Education Center in Garrett County, MD. The classes are
taught by professionals in the field. It is sponsored by the Maryland
Forestry Boards and Foundation, the Maryland Forest Service, and
Allegany College of Maryland. Steve Resh of Allegany College is the
Curriculum Director. Students can optionally apply and pay for 2
college credits given by Allegany College to students who complete the
entire week of classes and pass an exam.
The goal is to recruit two qualified students from each county in
Maryland plus Baltimore City. Applicants are interviewed and selected
by their local Forestry Boards. The Boards pay for the $300 tuition fee.
